A Glimpse

Do you want to know more about me and some details on how i work? Ok i’ll give you a peak.

my computer

today’s screenshot

yes, i am running windows xp, and have been for over 2 years now. i really have no complaints about the operating system .i run most adobe and macromedia programs and they work smoothly. cross platform issues happen less often, which is a real plus. i feel that both os x and xp have their strengths and weaknesses, but both can get the job done, i am not an os basher like many apple people bashing windows or vica versa. i do, however, bash hardware.

hardware

i have a problem with sub par hardware, and really think that if a computer has lackluster specs it shouldn’t even be touched. in the sub ghz era, on board graphics were all the rage, making cheap computers cheaper (mind you, cheap at that time was over $1k). the problem was compounding and the transition between the way people were using computers in there everyday lives made it even more difficult.

then the ghz barrier was broken and processors never increased with such speed. i think it was somewhere in the range of one to one and a half years that processors went from 1ghz to 2ghz. then there was apple and the Motorola g3 processor. horribly slow combine with a crash ridden os 9, i was turned off by what apple had to offer. i look at the graphic designers at that time and i asked why it was they used these slow dinos. needless to say, i was left with a bad aftertaste when taking a bite out of apple

now in our common era, apple is making great strides with their hardware, including the ibm g5 processor and more (ipod, powerbook design). os x is a great platform and with panther it seems to be the golden apple. at this time i am using an amd xp 1.4ghz system that i built nearly 2 years ago. it runs great and i have a bit of expansion room, however, i am ready to go portable. my xp machine is awesome for games and adobe app’s run smoothly.

in the future

i am ready to bridge, not switch, to apple machines. i still will use my xp machine as a sort of base to store files, play mp3s and games. i am waiting for a faster apple powerbook, which some may find childish, but i think it will happen in the next couple of months. either a dual g4 setup or a g5 (preferred) by the beginning of next year is rumored. the 17" is a piece of art, but i am trying to abstain for the moment.
