Print vs. Web

Q: Do you prefer designing for print or the world wide web?

A: I like web site design, I really do. The big downside to web sites is they are intangible. All that html, and css on this site, comes together to produce information that will, hopefully, be interpreted by the viewer.

The beauty of print media is that it’s right there on a sheet of paper ready to be highlighted, dog eared, sneezed on, or crumpled; on the bright side, it could also be stuck to the fridge, mounted, or even framed. There is just something about ink on paper. It might be the indelibility of it. Then there is also that sense of vulnerability. Will it be looked at or cast aside?

The problem, or difficulty, with both mediums is the issue of getting the information to those that are looking for it, those that it would most benefit, or, as an advertiser, those that would most likely buy what’s being sold. I like both forms of media, and think that the gold is in taking advantage of both, like two strong players that alone play well, but together they can make great things happen.
