Walk The Walk

Poster Glimpse

We read all this talk about design; talk, talk, talk. Don’t get me wrong I
like the talk. But does everyone walk the walk, so to speak. Cameron
Moll
gives us a look at some of his work, discusses it, and asks for critiques.
Ryan Sims shows off his gorgeous
sites every so often.

What have I done? Nothing in regards showing off a project.
So in anticipation of completing a project I would like to provide a sneak peak
at what it is that I’m working on.

The project is a poster design, specifically one to enter in to the Speak Up:
Poster Design Contest
– thus my reason for not displaying it in its entirety
until I have submitted it. I’m not the worlds greatest illustrator, and I don’t
really draw for fun, just when I have to, but I’m really optimistic with the
concept I have come up with. A 2-color poster has its limitations, but as far
as creativity goes, posters leave the world at your disposal.

I will have the final poster design up a week from Monday. In the meantime,
what projects have you been working on?

Kartooner is a busy one. I know your lifestyle, minus the 8-month old.

“A slew of projects happening simultaneously” is what I, along with many others in this country, am constantly involved in. It seems to be all or nothing, when it rains it’s deluges, both symbolically and literally lately in Tampa.

I don’t believe I’ve really mentioned this before, but for the past two years, I have been perusing a bachelors degree. It must take determination to go back. Hope all goes well, I’m sure it will.

Looks good, Michael. I just recently became aware of Speakup a couple weeks ago and have been fascinated with the logo and design contests they hold. A lot of creativity is flowing through that site, especially the logo designs, which I saved and printed for “reference” purposes. It’s always good to surround oneself with inspiration.

As for what I’m working on at the moment, well, to be honest there are a slew of projects happening simultaneously. At work, I’m redesiging our corporate site (a huge undertaking) to utilize a cleaner stylesheet and more of an open design than the previous versions. I remember dreading the day when I had to convert the site to CSS/XHTML, but after I figured it all out, it wasn’t as difficult as I had originally made it out to be.

As for personal projects, I’m working diligently on Sideville, but haven’t as of yet released anything to the public. I’d rather have something more solidified than sheets of paper scattered all over the place. I’m also working on a few freelancing projects, adding my 80 cents worth of graphic design to spruce up some rather flat projects, in other words applying a digital facelight to applications created by programmers, who typically do not have a strong sense of design. Just as well, I don’t have a strong sense of programming.

That’s what I’m working on, in a proverbial nutshell. That, in addition to raising an 8-month old, working full-time at a design/IT firm and going (back) to college.
